안녕히 계세요

Annyeonghi gyeseyo

Goodbye (to someone who is staying)

farewell expression

Used when you are leaving and the other person is staying. It literally means 'Please stay in peace' and uses the honorific verb 계시다 (to stay) instead of the plain 있다. This shows respect to the person you are leaving behind.

In a sentence

선생님, 저는 먼저 가보겠습니다. 안녕히 계세요.

Seonsaengnim, jeoneun meonjeo gabogetseumnida. Annyeonghi gyeseyo.
